Standards for influencer marketing

An Influencer Marketing Council went into operation this week. Comprised of brands, talent agencies and other influencer representatives, it is tasked with outlining a set of best practices for paid posts that are, in effect, ads. The aim is to set industry standards. Read more here via Adage.

Celebrity influencers not that bright

It’s been reported that 93% of celebrity influencers don’t signpost ads correctly on Instagram. A study has found that that just 7% of sponsored content posted by the most followed celebrities on Instagram was in line with guidelines. It is a requirement to use #ad in the top part of the copy and be clearly visible, rather than hidden in comments.
