Stuck in the middle
Text100 Madrid’s Virginia Huerta was part of a panel discussing reinventing content in the era of digital disruption. The conversation focused on video content, and the possibilities it offers for the future.
Here’s what we learned
- Firstly, video is the most consumed format online. Facebook users watch over 100M hours of video every day.
- Teens consume information almost exclusively through video; This doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
- There is less focus on the publisher (who creates the video content), in favour of the content itself. Content remains king.

One of the biggest takeaways was how viewing habits are changing for families and couples. Before, it was normal for families to gather around a single screen; the home TV. Now, video consumption at home has been individualised. A family gathered in the living room does not necessarily mean the same as it once did.
The huge expanse of video content available means that the experience is on demand. People can watch what they want, meaning watching different videos on different devices is now the norm. The upside? No more family arguments about what to watch!
