Xerox Channels Group Appoints Text 100 As PR Agency Of Record
Text 100 opens Rochester Office and increases Boston staff

Boston, Tuesday February 10, 1998 -- Xerox Channels Group, one of the fastest growing divisions of Xerox Corporation, has appointed Text 100 as its public relations agency of record for 1998. As a result of the win, Text 100 has opened a fourth U.S. office in Rochester, N.Y. and has boosted staff numbers in its recently opened Boston office. The account is the largest won to date by Text 100 in North America and is seen by the company as an endorsement of its aggressive expansion into the U.S. over the past two years.

The Xerox Channels Group is a standalone organization within Xerox Corporation that is focused on distributing networked and personal document solutions -- including laser and ink jet printers, personal copiers and multi-function devices -- through indirect sales channels. The group, which was formed in April 1997, is responsible for expanding Xerox' presence in the fast growing networked office, small office and home office market sectors. It comprises two divisions: network products which is focused on delivering networked printers to the office environment and personal products which brings Xerox technology into the small office/ home office (SOHO) environment. Text 100's role will be to support the group with a strong multinational public relations program serving the computing, consumer, business, retail and SOHO media.

"Our goal is to become the fastest growing source of networked and personal document solutions sold through resellers and retail organizations worldwide," states Edward A. Gala, manager, strategic communications, Xerox Channels Group. "To that end, we are embarking on a range aggressive market awareness and brand-building initiatives, including global public relations campaigns designed to communicate the Xerox story. We are pleased to expand our partnership with Text 100 which has established itself as a multinational high-tech public relations resource with top-notch talent that delivers excellent results."

As part of its commitment to Xerox, Text 100 has opened its fourth U.S. office in Rochester, the home of the Xerox Channels Group. Headed up by Linda Parker, formerly of Hutchins Y&R, the office has been established to provide on-the-ground support to the Xerox account and to coordinate all activity. Parker heads up the overall Xerox Channels Group account, working with a staff of six in Boston and Rochester with support from Text 100's West Coast offices in San Francisco and Seattle.

In addition to its U.S. activity, Text 100 will also be responsible for developing a global PR strategy for Xerox Channels Group that will be implemented by Text 100 and other Xerox agencies around the world. Headed by Andy West, senior vice president of Text 100 Boston, the global element will be focused on ensuring that a consistent brand message and position are developed and communicated to all local agencies. The plan is an extension of work handled by Text 100 London for the past two years.

The Xerox Channels Group is the latest Xerox client gain for Text 100's US operation. In October 1997, Text 100 San Francisco was appointed to provide PR support for the Xerox Palo Alto Research Centre (PARC) and other corporate strategic public relations activities on the West Coast. In December 1997, Text 100 Boston was appointed by Xerox Supplies Group to co-ordinate PR activity for its rapidly expanding supplies business in North America.

Text 100 is one of the world's leading technology PR consultancies. Established in 1981, it is retained by many of the world's leading companies to provide business to business, consumer, corporate, trade and technology PR on a national and international basis.
