Facebook Usage and Metrics & The Best Times to Blog – What We’re Reading Today
It’s been awhile since we did a good ‘ol fashioned news roundup – here’s what catching our eyes today!
Facebook Users Spend 27% Of Their Time In The Newsfeed – A new report from comScore and Buddy Media revealed some new data on how social media influences consumer behavior. Among the findings was a statistic that revealed one in every seven minutes spent online is on Facebook, and of that time on Facebook, the majority (27%) spend time browsing the newsfeed, while 21% visit profiles and 17% view photos. For brands, this means efforts shouldn’t be spent on updating the status your fan page alone. Further, the report showed 25% of people spend time on “other” activities on Facebook – which likely includes things like engaging in groups or viewing videos, for example. (source: Social Fresh)

3 Metrics that Will Change the Way You Market on Facebook – Facebook revamped its insights function just a few months ago, and if you’re still not sure what each new metric means, consider these three as the most important. “People Talking About This” shows the total number of people who have interacted with your page in the last seven days – a good measure of overall engagement. “Engaged Users” represents the number of unique people who have clicked anywhere on a particular page post – another useful measure of engagement in that it not only shows how many people are engaged, but how. Lastly, look at your “external referrers” metric to see how users are finding your page from an external site – handy for learning what’s effective in driving traffic to your page. (source: Mashable)
Facebook Timeline is Here to Stay – Facebook reports it’s rolling out Timeline to all 800 million of its users and they will not be able to switch back to the “old” design. Users have seven days to update their profiles before the Timeline goes live. Still confused about how Timeline will change our profiles? Check out this post on Hypertext. (source: ReadWriteWeb)
